I have an oregano plant that was getting too big for its britches and crowding out its neighbors. I gave it a good trimming and instead of tossing the branches, I decided to dehydrate them.
Of course I have a nice dehydrator to make the task official but I wondered if I couldn’t just use my oven to make it happen more quickly.
Sure enough, after a short web search I figured out that all I had to do is lay the stems out single file on a tray and bake at 200° for 30 minutes.
I did 3 batches of trays and left it out all piled up to air dry (just to make sure) for a few more days. Then I just slide my fingers down the stem and the leaves came right off the stem, no problem.
It’s rewarding and good stewardship to preserve and then use what you grow. Plus, the whole house smells like spaghetti.
